In today's competitive digital world, making sense of SEO and content data can be overwhelming. A global media and advertising group faced a familiar challenge: vast amounts of analytics and performance metrics, but no clear way to translate that data into actionable decisions.
Before the project, the client's SEO and content teams faced recurring challenges that limited their ability to make informed, high-impact decisions:
Misaligned keyword investment: resources were often spent on low-value or declining keywords, because it wasn't clear which terms were driving results.
Manual and inconsistent prioritisation: teams spent considerable time manually deciding which pages or keywords to optimise, leading to inconsistent actions.
Limited insight into performance drivers: while data existed, there was no clear framework to understand which factors, CTR, rankings, or content gaps, were influencing outcomes.
Reactive workflows: optimisations were made in response to traffic changes, rather than proactively based on anticipated trends.
Fragmented collaboration: SEO, content, and analytics teams lacked a single source of truth, which led to inefficiencies and misaligned priorities.
Project goal: build a system that translates SEO and analytics data into clear, weekly action lists, enabling teams to focus on high-impact opportunities, make faster decisions, and improve overall organic search performance.
Charles led the design and development of the Optimiser, a decision tool that transforms complex data into prioritised, actionable recommendations for SEO and content teams.
Core solution design: designed and built the Optimiser, consolidating Google Search Console, analytics, and keyword data into ranked weekly "do-next" recommendations. Engineered the prioritisation framework, combining opportunity scoring, effort estimation, and confidence weighting to guide SEO and content focus areas. Implemented modular logic to allow teams to tailor recommendations by objective, whether traffic growth, conversion or brand protection.
Keyword expansion and Bayesian modelling: developed an automated "Add New Keywords" workflow using the Google Ads API and Keyword Planner to identify high-potential search terms and content gaps. Built a Bayesian layer that learns from historical performance to assign confidence scores to each recommendation, integrated with rule-based optimisation to balance performance volatility and statistical confidence.
Cross-team collaboration: partnered with the technology partner's AI platform and data engineering teams to integrate the Optimiser within the client's analytics infrastructure, ensuring robust production reliability. Collaborated closely with the client's SEO and content strategy teams to align recommendations with editorial workflows and campaign goals, and led alignment sessions across technical, analytics, and content stakeholders to ensure outputs were both explainable and actionable.
Outcome: The Optimiser fundamentally changed how the client's teams approached SEO. It delivered clear, weekly "do-next" lists, enabling faster, more consistent, data-driven decisions, and reduced manual analysis and reporting so teams could focus on executing high-impact optimisations.
It created a single source of truth that improved collaboration across SEO, content, and analytics teams, and empowered teams with confidence-weighted recommendations, enabling proactive decision-making instead of reactive adjustments.
While specific performance metrics are confidential, internal feedback confirmed the tool significantly enhanced workflow efficiency, decision quality, and team alignment. Feedback from both the technology partner and the client has been overwhelmingly positive, with stakeholders praising the Optimiser for transforming complex data into actionable insights and enabling faster, smarter, and more confident SEO and content decisions.
